Two Arrested for Drone Operation near Boston Airport
Two men, Robert Duffy, 42, and Jeremy Folcik, 32, were arrested on Long Island near Boston Harbor. They face charges for allegedly operating a drone dangerously close to Logan International Airport. The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 4:30 PM.
Investigation and Arrests
Police identified the drone’s location and tracked the operators to a nearby health campus. FBI counter-terrorism agents assisted due to the drone’s proximity to the airport.
Upon arrival, officers apprehended Duffy and Folcik, who attempted to flee. A drone was found in Duffy’s backpack.
A third suspect escaped in a small vessel.
Drone Sightings in Northeast
The arrests come amid a series of drone sightings in the US northeast. Officials have not connected these sightings to the Boston incident. The rise in sightings may be due to changes in federal law allowing drones to fly at night.
Government Response
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas emphasized that no national security threats have been identified. The federal government is working with state and local authorities to address the issue.
Governor Kathy Hochul has called for increased state powers to deal with drones. Federal officials are sending drone detection systems to New York and New Jersey.
