Additional Coverage:

In 2024, the highest number of undocumented immigrants in a decade were removed from the US.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 271,484 people, a 90% increase from the previous two years. Over 88,000 had criminal records, including gang membership and terrorism.

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to increase deportations. ICE issued 149,764 detainers for noncitizens with criminal histories, a 19.5% increase. Detainers request local authorities to hold noncitizens for deportation, but some cities and states do not recognize them.

ICE focused on violent offenders and conducted over 32,000 criminal arrests, seized millions of pounds of narcotics, and assisted victims of child exploitation and human trafficking.
