The US military confirmed airstrikes in Yemen against a missile storage site and a command center operated by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
The strikes aimed to disrupt Houthi attacks on US naval vessels and merchant ships in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes reflect its commitment to protecting American and allied personnel and international shipping.
The strikes involved F/A-18 fighter jets and assets from the Navy and Air Force. Houthi militants continue to attack shipping in the region and have vowed to continue until Israel ends its campaign in Gaza. They have targeted over 100 merchant vessels since the start of the conflict in October 2023.
