Magdeburg Car Crash Suspect Faces Murder Charges
A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a car crash that killed five people at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany.
The suspect, identified as Taleb Al-Abdulmohsen, a 50-year-old Saudi Arabian, has been ordered into pre-trial detention. He is accused of killing a 9-year-old boy and four women aged 45, 52, 67, and 75.
Over 200 people were injured in the incident, with at least 41 in serious condition. The suspect, who has been living in Germany since 2006, was arrested within minutes of the attack.
Police believe the suspect acted alone and entered the market through an emergency vehicle access point. A motive for the attack is still being investigated, but Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has stated that the suspect has “Islamophobic views.”
Physical and psychological exams have been conducted on the suspect, but the results have not yet been released. The Magdeburg Christmas market will remain closed for the rest of the season.
