- Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ prosecutors withdraw appeal in manslaughter case, officially ending it (foxnews.com)
The involuntary manslaughter case against Alec Baldwin in the “Rust” shooting has officially ended. The Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office withdrew its appeal, upholding the court’s dismissal of the charges.
The move stems from allegations that prosecutors withheld evidence from Baldwin’s defense. In July, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the case after ruling that the state’s actions were prejudicial.
Baldwin’s attorneys welcomed the decision, stating that it vindicates their position that he committed no crime.
The fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins occurred in October 2021. The defense argued that investigators concealed evidence related to the source of the live ammunition used in the gun Baldwin was holding.
Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed pleaded guilty to loading a live round into the revolver, resulting in Hutchins’ death and the wounding of director Joel Souza.
