Hawaii crime boss dies in custody from overdose

Additional Coverage:

Michael Miske, a notorious Hawaiian businessman, has died in federal custody. The medical examiner ruled his death an accidental overdose of fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl.

Miske was convicted of racketeering, murder, and other charges related to his leadership of the “Miske Enterprise,” a criminal conspiracy involving drug trafficking and violence. His sentencing was scheduled for January 30.

Miske’s conviction for his son Caleb’s 2015 car crash death also led to his son’s best friend, Jonathan Fraser, being tortured and killed. Miske believed Fraser was responsible for Caleb’s death. Fraser’s body has never been found.

As part of his conviction, the government seized up to $28 million in assets from Miske, including boats, houses, and artwork.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is investigating the circumstances of Miske’s death.
