NYC’s First White Christmas in Years

Additional Coverage:

New York City experienced its first white Christmas in 15 years, with Central Park reporting 1 inch of snow on the ground by 7 a.m. Wednesday. This marks the first white Christmas since 2009, when the city saw 2 inches of snow.

Nebraska’s football team celebrated the occasion with a snowball fight in Central Park ahead of their Pinstripe Bowl appearance.

Other cities also enjoyed a snowy Christmas, including Boston, which received 4 inches of snow.

While the snow will melt gradually due to the cold temperatures, milder weather is expected by the weekend.

Meanwhile, the West Coast continues to face a series of storms, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and mountain snow. River flooding is a concern in western Washington and Oregon, with some areas potentially seeing up to 12 inches of rain in the coming days.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Cascade mountains in Washington, with up to 3 feet of snow forecast. A winter storm watch is also active for the northern Rockies, where 2 feet of snow is possible.

The South is also bracing for severe weather on Thursday, with tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds expected. Dallas, Houston, and Shreveport, Louisiana, are among the cities in the path of the storm.
