Former Central Michigan University quarterback Tommy Lazzaro passed away on December 22nd in a hunting accident in Destin, Florida. He was 27 years old.
Lazzaro played for Central Michigan from 2016 to 2019, earning the nickname “Touchdown Tommy” for his impressive performance in the second half of his senior season. He scored 16 touchdowns during his college career.
After graduating with an Entrepreneurship degree, Lazzaro enlisted in the United States Army, reaching the rank of sergeant. At the time of his death, he was serving his country.
Former Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain praised Lazzaro’s leadership and contributions to the team. Lazzaro’s former athletic director, Michael Alford, described him as a “great soul” who cared deeply for others.
Lazzaro will be buried with full military honors at a celebration of life on December 28th at Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He is survived by his parents, Tom and Lisa, and his sister, Lexie.
