FBI Seizes Record-Breaking Cache of Homemade Explosives
The FBI has made the largest seizure of homemade explosives in its history during the arrest of a Virginia man. Brad Spafford was arrested on December 17th for possessing an unregistered short barrel rifle.
A subsequent search of his 20-acre farm uncovered a stockpile of over 150 improvised explosive devices, identified as pipe bombs. Some of these bombs were labeled “lethal” and prepared for use in a wearable vest.
The investigation began after Spafford’s neighbor reported his suspicious behavior, including stockpiling weapons and losing fingers in an explosion. Investigators also found an unstable explosive material stored in Spafford’s freezer next to food items.
Spafford has allegedly made disturbing statements, expressing support for political assassinations and conspiracy theories about missing children being trained as school shooters. He is currently in custody, with prosecutors arguing he poses a danger to the community.
Spafford’s attorneys have requested his release pending trial, citing his lack of a criminal record and mental health issues. They argue that his comments were not threats and that he is a responsible family man.
