Prehistoric Highway Found in England

A team of scientists has uncovered a “dinosaur highway” in an English quarry. The discovery consists of hundreds of giant footprints dating back 166 million years to the middle Jurassic era.

Multiple Creatures and Tracks

The footprints are believed to belong to different creatures, including long-necked herbivores known as Cetiosaurus and a carnivore called Megalosaurus. The tracks form five extensive paths, each measuring up to 492 feet in length.

Herbivores and Carnivores

The herbivores, Cetiosaurus, were massive creatures with small heads and short necks. The carnivore, Megalosaurus, was a theropod, similar to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

First Dinosaur Scientifically Described

Megalosaurus holds the distinction of being the first dinosaur to be scientifically named and described in 1824. This discovery suggests that there is still much to learn about these ancient creatures.

Extensive Excavation

The excavation, which involved over 100 researchers, began after a quarry worker noticed unusual bumps while working. They uncovered around 200 footprints, providing valuable insights into the prehistoric environment and the interactions between different dinosaur species.
