Chinese Underwater Drone Found Near Philippines

Fishermen discovered a Chinese underwater drone off the coast of the Philippines. The yellow, torpedo-shaped device is labeled “HY-119” and is believed to be used for communication and navigation.

The drone was found in internal Philippine waters, far from the open sea. It has been handed over to the Philippine Navy for inspection.

Philippine Navy sources believe the device is capable of transmitting, recording, and monitoring data. Police say it has an antenna and camera for surveillance purposes.

Tensions in the South China Sea

The discovery comes amid rising tensions between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea. China claims the entire sea, despite overlapping claims from the Philippines and other countries.

China has increased its naval presence in the region, leading to clashes with Philippine vessels. The US and its allies have also increased patrols in the area, warning China against escalating tensions.

The South China Sea is a major shipping route and is believed to contain valuable natural resources. The discovery of the Chinese drone highlights the ongoing conflict over control of this strategic waterway.
