Jay-Z Faces Dismissal Motion in Rape Lawsuit

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z is moving closer to having a lawsuit alleging he raped a 13-year-old girl dismissed.

Judge Analisa Torres has allowed Jay-Z’s lawyer to file a motion to dismiss the case on procedural grounds. The lawyer argues that the plaintiff cannot sue Jay-Z under New York City’s Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act because it was not in effect when the alleged assault occurred.

The plaintiff, known only as Jane Doe, claims she was raped by Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. The law protecting victims of gender-motivated violence was enacted later that year but cannot be applied retroactively to create a claim for events that occurred earlier.

Jane Doe’s attorney opposes the dismissal, arguing that the law’s purpose is to help victims seek justice.

Separately, Jay-Z and Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, are involved in a legal battle. Jay-Z is suing Buzbee for extortion and defamation, while Buzbee has accused Jay-Z’s company of bribery and impersonation.
