Senate Scrutinizes Hegseth Amid Allegations

The Senate Armed Services Committee is investigating allegations of sexual assault and financial misconduct against Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense.

The committee has requested documents from the Monterey County District Attorney regarding a 2017 sexual assault claim. Hegseth has denied the allegations but settled with the accuser.

The committee is also seeking information from Concerned Veterans for America, where Hegseth was CEO, about allegations of financial mismanagement and sexist behavior.

Despite the allegations, Trump has publicly endorsed Hegseth and described him as a “high energy” choice for Secretary of Defense.

Committee chairman Roger Wicker has indicated his preference for a thorough background check on Hegseth, which has since been initiated. Hegseth has met with senators and is reportedly gaining support.
