Snowfall and Winter Conditions
Heavy snowfall is forecast for parts of Kansas and Missouri, with some areas receiving over 15 inches. Blizzard conditions are expected in the central Plains, making travel dangerous or impossible.
Indiana and central Kansas could see up to 8 inches of snow, while sleet and freezing rain are likely in eastern Kansas and the Ozarks. The Central Appalachians face the risk of freezing rain and ice, potentially causing power outages.
Winter Weather Alerts
Winter storm warnings and advisories are in effect from Pennsylvania to Maryland, with snow totals expected to exceed 6 inches. Lake effect snow is also forecast for Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, potentially bringing up to 2 feet of snow.
Difficult Travel Conditions
Forecasters warn that travel will be hazardous or impossible in many areas. Severe delays are likely in the Central Plains and Ohio Valley due to heavy snow and blizzard conditions. Fallen trees and power outages are also expected from eastern Kansas to the Ozarks.
After the Storm: Bitter Cold
Lingering cold after the storm will keep snow and ice on the ground for several days. Temperatures will be significantly lower than normal next week, with single-digit temperatures at night in the Central Plains and Midwest. Power outages could worsen the situation, making it more dangerous.
