Former ‘Star Wars’ Child Actor Jake Lloyd Shares Positive Mental Health Update

Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” has opened up about his mental health journey after being diagnosed with schizophrenia.

After completing an 18-month inpatient treatment, Lloyd expressed optimism, saying he feels “pretty good” and is accepting of continued treatment and medication. He now lives in a rehabilitation center where he has more freedom and the support of his family.

Lloyd also shared that he has a neurological condition called anosognosia, which prevented him from acknowledging his illness. However, medication has helped him stabilize.

Despite his challenges, Lloyd stated that the time spent in treatment has been beneficial. He credits hitting “rock bottom” as the catalyst for his commitment to recovery.

Lloyd’s mother, Lisa, expressed relief and optimism about his progress. She believes his schizophrenia is genetic and that his acting in “The Phantom Menace” did not contribute to his mental health issues.

Lloyd remains a fan of “Star Wars” and fondly recalls his time filming “The Phantom Menace.” He plans to watch the franchise with his mother on May the Fourth, a special day for “Star Wars” enthusiasts.

Lloyd appreciates the continued support from fans and finds their interactions therapeutic. He expressed gratitude for the time and care they have shown him during his health journey.
