Border Patrol Operations in Kern County Cause Concern

Immigrant communities in Kern County are anxious following U.S. Border Patrol operations that have apprehended individuals throughout the area.

Videos and images show agents apprehending people in various locations. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) states that the operations target individuals involved in smuggling.

However, witnesses claim that agents have targeted Hispanic field workers without warrants. Sarah Fuentes, a Chevron station manager, reported seeing agents approach and arrest workers.

United Farm Workers (UFW) members have also been detained, with the union estimating that up to 192 people were apprehended this week.

The operations have prompted concern from the Bakersfield mayor and the ACLU of Southern California. The mayor has confirmed that local police are aware but are not assisting federal agents.

The ACLU has received reports of agents targeting farm-working communities and randomly apprehending individuals. One witness described agents blocking her car and questioning her before arresting seven nearby individuals.
