Outrage Over LA Mayor Karen Bass’s Wildfire Response

Over 92,000 people have signed a petition demanding the resignation of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass due to her handling of the devastating wildfires. The petition accuses Bass of “gross mismanagement” and points out that she was out of the country when the fires erupted.

Bass has faced criticism for her decision to travel to Ghana while the fires raged, resulting in billions of dollars in damage and the loss of lives. Petitioners argue that water supplies have been strained and taxpayers’ money has been misallocated.

Five wildfires are currently active in Los Angeles County. Bass has been posting on social media since her return, expressing her condolences and acknowledging the devastation.

Despite the public backlash, Bass was once highly praised by Democratic leaders. President Biden considered her as a vice presidential candidate, and former President Obama predicted she would be an “outstanding mayor.”

Celebrities, including Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patricia Heaton, have also criticized Bass for her response. Podcast host Aurora Culpo called for officials to take responsibility and resign, saying the city was unprepared despite its high tax burden.
