San Diego Wildfires Spark Evacuations

Additional Coverage:

San Diego County residents are facing mandatory evacuations this morning as two wildfires, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds, threaten homes and businesses. County Supervisor Jim Desmond urged residents in evacuation zones to leave immediately, emphasizing the dangerous fire conditions.

The Lilac Fire, near Bonsall, has burned roughly 50 acres and is spreading moderately. The Pala Fire, near Pala Mesa, has scorched about 30 acres, but firefighters have stopped its forward progress.

Evacuation orders are in place for communities near the Lilac Fire, with warnings extending to surrounding areas. Residents are urged to heed evacuation orders and leave if they feel threatened.

Both fires are under investigation. Forecasters report critical fire weather conditions across San Diego County, with strong winds contributing to the risk.

Wind gusts neared 90 mph late Monday night. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until this afternoon, and a Red Flag Warning is in place until tomorrow night.
