Philadelphia Whole Foods Workers Vote to Unionize
In a historic move, employees at a Philadelphia Whole Foods Market have voted to unionize. This marks the first unionized store for the Amazon-owned grocery chain.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 announced the victory Monday night.
The National Labor Relations Board confirmed the vote on Tuesday. Out of 297 eligible employees, 130 voted in favor of union representation, while 100 voted against.
The NLRB stated that Whole Foods must now begin good-faith bargaining with the union. Both parties have five business days to file any objections to the election. If no objections are filed, the results will be certified.
Whole Foods expressed disappointment with the outcome. The company stated its commitment to maintaining a positive work environment at the Philadelphia store. They also touted their competitive compensation, benefits, and career advancement opportunities.
