Local WNBA star Angel Reese gave her mother, also named Angel, a birthday gift she’ll never forget. During a recent episode of Reese’s podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” the Chicago Sky forward surprised her mom with a very special cake.
But the dessert was just the beginning. Reese then revealed the real present: she had paid off her mother’s mortgage.
Reese told her mom, “You said that if your mortgage was paid off, you would retire. So your mortgage today has been paid. You ain’t gotta worry about your mortgage no more!”
The elder Angel was stunned. She had previously received a gift card and assumed that was the big birthday surprise. She was clearly moved to tears by her daughter’s generosity.
Reese explained, “That was my biggest goal in life was to retire you. You a hardworking woman. You don’t need me for no money.”
The younger Reese has often spoken about her mother’s influence, both as her biggest supporter and as the person who taught her the game of basketball. The elder Angel played basketball at both the college and professional levels.
