- Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk might be ‘best friends,’ and now Amazon reportedly plans to buy ads on X (newsbreak.com)
Local online retail giant Amazon is reportedly returning to advertising on X, formerly known as Twitter, after a year-long hiatus. This follows a trend of other companies pulling back on X advertising after Elon Musk’s takeover.
The move comes weeks after Amazon executive chairman Jeff Bezos was seen with Musk at the presidential inauguration. Musk currently leads a government efficiency department focused on reducing national debt.
The inauguration saw several prominent tech leaders in attendance, including Bezos, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Large contributions were made to the inaugural fund.
The relationship between Musk and Bezos has seemingly warmed recently. Previously, the two had publicly sparred, often through social media, due to their competing space exploration companies, SpaceX and Blue Origin. A recent exchange of positive messages on X suggests a friendlier dynamic.
Following Musk’s purchase of the platform, X saw a significant drop in advertising revenue as many brands, including Amazon, pulled their campaigns. Some companies even faced legal action from X for allegedly boycotting the platform.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is said to be involved in the company’s renewed advertising efforts on X. The company is reportedly testing out ads on the platform. Amazon has not yet officially commented on the matter.
