Rare Planet Alignment Offers Sky Show

Additional Coverage:

Get ready for a rare celestial show! Seven planets will align in the night sky on February 28th. This planetary alignment, visible after sunset, won’t happen again until 2040.

Six planets are already visible, but Mercury will join the lineup on the 28th, completing the set. Mars will be visible in the east.

Jupiter and Uranus will be in the southeast. Venus, Neptune, and Saturn will be located in the west.

While most of the planets will be visible even in areas with light pollution, finding a darker location will enhance your viewing experience. Binoculars or a telescope will be necessary to see Uranus and Neptune.

A local expert, Dr. Christopher Barnes, recommends viewing the alignment just after sunset.

He emphasizes the benefits of stargazing beyond the visual spectacle. He says it can be a stress reliever, promoting mindfulness and a sense of peace.
