Local TikTok user finds worms in Costco salmon
A local shopper got more than she bargained for at Costco recently. A TikTok video posted by Rachel Lyn shows what appears to be a worm wriggling inside a package of salmon. The video quickly went viral, sparking concern and disgust among viewers.
This comes shortly after several recalls involving Costco products, including salmon contaminated with listeria, frozen meat, and eggs. While some commenters expressed horror at the discovery, others pointed out that such parasites are common in wild salmon.
Experts weigh in on salmon parasites
Experts say the parasites, known as anisakid nematodes, are not uncommon in wild-caught salmon. While unsettling to see, they reportedly pose no health risk if the fish is cooked thoroughly. Consuming raw or undercooked fish containing these parasites could, however, lead to an infection called anisakiasis.
Bugs found in paprika at Walmart
Costco isn’t the only retailer facing scrutiny. Another TikTok video shows a customer finding bugs inside a container of paprika purchased at Walmart.
The video’s creator urged viewers to inspect their spices, even if they haven’t reached their expiration date. Other commenters expressed their own anxieties about food safety.
