Three Tips for Smoother Skin as You Age

Additional Coverage:

Dry, thinning, and crepey skin? Many people experience these issues due to aging, sun exposure, and dehydration. Luckily, there are ways to improve skin texture and restore a more youthful appearance.

Esthetician Chris Gibson recommends a simple three-step process: trapping moisture, exfoliation, and using a hydrating moisturizer. These tips can be used on the entire body.

Gibson emphasizes trapping moisture immediately after showering. Applying products within five to six minutes of showering helps lock in residual moisture on the skin’s surface. He explains that dry, crepey skin is caused by a buildup of dry skin cells, not deeper skin issues.

Exfoliation is crucial for removing dead skin cells and revealing smoother skin. Gibson recommends gentle exfoliation using a product with encapsulated retinol. This helps speed up cell turnover without irritating sensitive skin.

Finally, a deeply hydrating moisturizer is essential. Gibson recommends moisturizers containing ribose, which he calls a “miracle ingredient.”

Ribose, a component of DNA and RNA, provides energy to skin cells, improving elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. He also suggests looking for moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, or plant-based oils.
