CBS Mornings host Gayle King issued an on-air apology to her co-host Nate Burleson after criticizing his Super Bowl LIX jacket. King initially questioned Burleson’s fashion choice when she saw him sporting the colorful, NOLA-themed jacket in New Orleans.
Burleson, a former NFL player and current CBS sports analyst, is known for his stylish attire. He joined King and Tony Dokoupil on the morning show following the Super Bowl.
King admitted that the jacket had “weighed” on her for days. She confessed that seeing it in person changed her mind.
Holding up the jacket, she told Burleson, “I now would like to apologize to you in front of America. When I saw it in person, I actually liked it.”
The jacket, primarily black with splashes of color and a large “NOLA” on the sleeve, was designed by a local New Orleans artist and is part of the Starter x MSX by Michael Strahan collection.
Dokoupil, meanwhile, expressed more concern over Burleson’s choice of white cargo pants. He jokingly asked if they were making a comeback.
King, calling Burleson the “fashionista” of the CBS Mornings team, admitted she often seeks his fashion advice. She recounted her initial reaction to seeing the jacket, saying she thought, “Ohh, brother man’s having a bad day.”
She reiterated her apology, saying, “But I see it in person and bravo. I apologize.
I actually really like it.”
Viewers reacted to the on-air apology on social media, with many praising Burleson’s fashion sense. Some comments poked fun at King’s initial reaction, while others defended Burleson’s style choices. One commenter even questioned King’s own footwear choices.
