Get ready for a blast from the past, “Saturday Night Live” fans! This Saturday, instead of a new episode, NBC is airing a special rerun of the very first “SNL” from October 11, 1975.
The late comedian George Carlin hosted this inaugural episode. Musical guests included Billy Preston and Janis Ian. Viewers can also expect appearances from Andy Kaufman and a sketch from Muppets creator Jim Henson.
Before the classic episode airs, NBC will present the documentary “Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of SNL Music.”
The first “SNL” will air Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
This premiere episode introduced the world to the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players.” The original cast included Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner.
This weekend is a full-on “SNL” celebration. The festivities kick off Friday with “SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert.”
Then, the main event, “SNL 50: The Anniversary Special,” airs live Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The three-hour special will feature former cast members, hosts, writers, musical guests, and other celebrity guests.
