Game Show Announcer Shares Sajak Memories

Additional Coverage:

Longtime game show announcer Rich Fields recently shared some behind-the-scenes stories about his time on “Wheel of Fortune.” Fields, known for his work on “The Price Is Right,” filled in as the “Wheel” announcer for 55 episodes following the passing of longtime announcer Charlie O’Donnell.

Appearing on the “Wheel of Fortune” podcast “Come On Big Money,” Fields described the experience as a dream come true. He recalled the “Wheel of Fortune” team as gracious and welcoming, making him feel comfortable despite the difficult circumstances.

Fields recounted a special moment when Pat Sajak introduced him to the audience by name. He described it as a surreal experience, hearing the iconic host acknowledge him.

He was particularly touched by Sajak’s kindness. Fields shared that Sajak encouraged him to “do his best and make Charlie proud.” He described Sajak and Vanna White as two of the classiest people he’d ever met.

Fields stepped in as announcer while considering a career as a weatherman. He received the call to join “Wheel of Fortune” only a day before recording began. He admitted it felt odd using O’Donnell’s dressing room so soon after his passing.

Fields served as “Wheel of Fortune” announcer from 2010 to 2011 before Jim Thornton took over the role permanently.
