Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson made a rare public appearance at Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special. The three-time Oscar winner, who hasn’t been in a film since 2010’s How Do You Know, introduced Adam Sandler. Sporting a Yankees beret and a dark suit, Nicholson, 87, whistled and clapped before announcing Sandler.
Sandler, a cast member from 1990 to 1995, expressed his love and appreciation for Nicholson. He then performed a five-minute musical tribute to the show’s 50-year run.
Sandler’s song, both humorous and heartfelt, explored how SNL impacted countless lives. Strumming a guitar, he saluted producer Lorne Michaels and the original cast, including Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, and the late John Belushi and Gilda Radner.
His lyrics touched on the highs and lows of creating a 90-minute live show each week. He also honored former castmates Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, and Norm MacDonald, who have since passed away.
The song concluded with a celebration of 50 years of the iconic phrase, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” Newman and Curtin held up a photo of Radner during the special.
