Steve Harvey’s Tough Love Parenting Stuns Fans

Additional Coverage:

Comedian and TV host Steve Harvey recently shared a parenting moment that resonated with many. In a video clip from a past appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harvey discussed how he and his wife, Marjorie, learned a valuable lesson about consistency in raising their seven children.

Harvey recounted a time when his sons tried to manipulate Marjorie’s softer side to get their way. He explained to Oprah that his sons went to Marjorie first, knowing she was more likely to give in. This didn’t sit well with Harvey.

He pulled his sons aside for a talk, making it clear they couldn’t go to their mother to circumvent his decisions. Harvey emphasized the importance of his sons understanding that privileges are earned.

Marjorie admitted that their sons’ “sob story” worked on her, forcing her and Steve to re-evaluate their approach. She acknowledged her decision against their agreed-upon parenting style backfired.

Harvey stood firm, even taking away his sons’ cars during their freshman year of college for poor grades. He believed a car should be a reward for graduating.

The parenting story resonated with Harvey’s fans on social media. Many praised the couple for their firm but fair approach, sharing their own similar experiences.

Steve and Marjorie Harvey blended their families when they married in 2007. Steve has four children from previous marriages: twin daughters Brandi and Karli, and sons Broderick Jr. and Wynton. He also adopted Marjorie’s three children, Morgan, Lori, and Jason.
