Joy Reid’s MSNBC Show Canceled

Additional Coverage:

Local news is buzzing with reports that MSNBC is canceling Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. show, “The ReidOut,” due to declining ratings. Reid is expected to host her final show next week.

A new panel show is slated to replace “The ReidOut,” featuring Symone Sanders Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele as co-hosts. Alex Wagner’s weeknight slot is also reportedly being cut.

Jen Psaki is rumored to be taking over at least one hour in the primetime lineup. Politico’s Eugene Daniels and lawyer Melissa Murray are reportedly in talks to join the network.

Fans of Reid’s show expressed their disappointment on social media. Some criticized the decision while praising Reid’s delivery and message. Others questioned why MSNBC was canceling “The ReidOut” while other shows remained on the air.

These changes come as MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler tries to boost the network’s struggling ratings. The network experienced its lowest-rated January ever in the key 25-54 demographic. Primetime viewership also significantly declined, losing nearly half its audience compared to last year.

This shakeup follows the departure of former MSNBC President Rashida Jones in January.
