Denny’s Adds Egg Fees Due to Shortage

Additional Coverage:

Local Denny’s restaurants are adding surcharges to menu items containing eggs. The move comes as egg prices continue to soar nationwide.

The popular diner chain confirmed the surcharges, but wouldn’t specify the amount. A spokesperson called the situation “fluid” and said individual restaurants will set their own prices.

Despite the added cost, Denny’s says it remains committed to providing affordable meals. The company says it works closely with suppliers to minimize the impact of market fluctuations.

Denny’s joins other national chains, like Waffle House, in adding egg surcharges. Numerous local restaurants have also implemented similar price increases in recent weeks.

The USDA reports that the average price of a dozen eggs has climbed above $7, jumping another 10% in the last week alone. The ongoing avian flu outbreak continues to impact poultry farms and egg production across the country.
