Former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart suffered a minor injury on air during a recent monologue criticizing government spending. He targeted the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), currently led by Elon Musk, for its cost-cutting strategies.
Stewart sarcastically suggested simple ways to save money, such as cutting subsidies to profitable oil and gas companies and closing tax loopholes for hedge funds. He also criticized excessive defense spending.
He then turned his attention to pharmaceutical companies, arguing that despite receiving government subsidies, they charge Americans exorbitant prices for medication. Stewart mocked a past presidential celebration of negotiating lower costs for just ten drugs.
In a moment of passionate frustration, Stewart slammed his hand down on a mug, cutting it and drawing blood. Despite the injury, he continued his monologue, joking about going to the hospital.
Later, he showed his bloodied hand to the audience, assuring them he was fine. Stewart later acknowledged the incident on social media, calling himself an “idiot” and promising a “bloody good episode.”
