- Lizzy Caplan says the scrapped ‘Gambit’ movie with Channing Tatum was supposed to be a ‘screwball romantic comedy’: ‘It was a really cool idea’ (businessinsider.com)
Local actress Lizzy Caplan recently revealed details about a scrapped “Gambit” film she was set to star in alongside Channing Tatum. Caplan described the project as having a “really cool idea,” envisioning a 1930s-style romantic comedy set within the superhero world.
Tatum had long pursued a Gambit solo film, with Caplan joining the project in 2017. They even held meetings and had a tentative start date. However, the Disney-Fox merger in 2019 ultimately led to the film’s cancellation.
While Tatum was understandably disappointed, he eventually portrayed Gambit in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Caplan, on the other hand, expressed relief at not having to endure the pressures of a Marvel film, despite acknowledging the genre’s peak popularity during the “Gambit” development.
