A Florida favorite, Pollo Tropical, has closed its last three company-owned restaurants in Jacksonville, effectively ending its presence in northeast Florida. The closures occurred over the weekend, with signs posted thanking customers and announcing the permanent closures.
The chicken chain, known for its citrus-marinated chicken and mojo roast pork, is owned by Authentic Restaurant Brands. A spokesperson explained the decision, stating the company regularly reviews its locations and chose to focus resources on higher-growth markets within Florida.
Most remaining Pollo Tropical locations are concentrated in southern and central Florida. This consolidation simplifies the company’s supply chain logistics.
The restaurant industry has seen several closures in 2024. Chains like Denny’s, Wendy’s, and TGI Fridays have shuttered underperforming locations, citing economic pressures like high interest rates, inflation, and reduced consumer spending. While some companies continue to expand, many casual dining restaurants are struggling to increase sales.
