Pope’s Health Takes Turn, Prayers Needed

Additional Coverage:

Pope Francis’s condition has slightly improved over the past day, according to the Vatican. He continues to recover at a Rome hospital where he’s been for nearly two weeks.

While the 88-year-old pontiff is still considered to be in serious condition, his mild kidney issues have resolved. A recent CT scan showed normal progress in his recovery from pneumonia.

The Pope is still receiving supplemental oxygen but has not experienced any new respiratory crises. He’s been able to participate in some of his regular duties and received communion.

The Vatican noted that despite the improvement, his prognosis remains confidential.

Francis was admitted to the hospital for bronchitis that developed into pneumonia. He received two blood transfusions earlier this week and has undergone respiratory therapy.

Doctors have previously stated that the Pope’s age, previous lung issues, and overall fragility make his situation delicate. They are watching closely for any signs of sepsis, a serious blood infection.

This current hospitalization has surpassed his previous longest stay, which was 10 days in 2021 following colon surgery.
