Game Show Glamour Meets Ice Water Challenge for ALS
The iconic game show “The Price is Right” joined the wave of celebrities and everyday folks participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Host Drew Carey and models Amber Lancaster and Rachel Reynolds, along with announcer George Gray and executive producer Mike Richards, took a chilly plunge on-stage during a taping.
Carey nominated Wayne Brady before getting drenched, setting off a chain reaction of icy hilarity. While most of the team braved the ice water head-on, Richards donned a scuba suit, much to the amusement (and eventual icy revenge) of Lancaster and Gray.
The team then nominated the cast of “Let’s Make a Deal” to take the challenge.
The ALS Association has praised the Ice Bucket Challenge’s success in raising awareness and funds for research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The challenge brought much-needed attention to the fight against this devastating disease.
However, the challenge also saw its share of controversy. A disturbing incident involving teenagers who cruelly tricked a young man with autism into participating, only to douse him with a mixture of bodily fluids, sparked outrage.
“Price is Right” host Drew Carey, deeply affected by the incident, offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the perpetrators’ apprehension and promised to donate the same amount to Autism Speaks if they were caught. The teens were ultimately charged with delinquency, assault, and disorderly conduct.
Local police condemned the prank as “heinous,” and school officials worked to reassure the community that the incident was isolated.
