- Inside Gene Hackman’s eerie mansion in mountains where he lived out of sight for 20 years (irishstar.com)
Santa Fe, NM – The secluded mountain home of Gene Hackman, a sanctuary for the past two decades, has become the center of a tragic mystery. The reclusive actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found deceased within the residence under circumstances currently under investigation.
Hackman, who retreated from Hollywood twenty years ago, found peace in the quiet solitude of his twelve-acre property nestled off a winding road outside Santa Fe. The property, a blend of pueblo, colonial New Mexico, and Spanish Baroque architecture, is shielded from prying eyes by a security booth and gated entrance. He and Arakawa were rarely seen in town, cherishing the privacy their remote haven afforded.
The couple’s deaths have left authorities with a number of unanswered questions. According to the police report, Hackman was found on the floor near the kitchen, dressed in casual attire and near his walking cane.
His wife was found nearby, with a scattered prescription bottle and a fallen heater in close proximity. The report indicates that both displayed similar “obvious signs of death” and suggests the possibility of accidental falls.
Adding to the enigma, the couple’s dog was found deceased in a closet, while two other dogs on the property were unharmed. The front door of the house was also found open, raising further questions for investigators.
The investigation is ongoing, as authorities work to piece together the events leading to this tragic discovery in the once-peaceful mountain retreat of the acclaimed actor.
