Pint-Sized Picker Makes Big Bucks on Antiques Roadshow

A young collector proved that age is just a number on a memorable episode of Antiques Roadshow, turning a $2 bargain-bin find into a potential small fortune. The boy, one of the youngest guests ever on the show, stunned expert David Weiss with his knowledge and eye for valuable items.

The episode, shared in a preview on YouTube, begins with Weiss remarking on the boy’s youth. Already a seasoned collector, the youngster shared his passion for glass, sterling silver, and art, even revealing his savvy plan to sell his silver holdings in September when he expects prices to rise.

But it was a watercolor painting that stole the show. Purchased for a mere $2 at a sweltering South Jersey auction, the boy recognized the artist’s signature as “Albert,” and correctly identified the piece as a watercolor. He recounted how his father, impatient with the heat, almost nixed the purchase, but the persistent young collector insisted on staying.

Weiss filled in the details, identifying the artist as Albert Neuhuys, a Dutch painter active in the late 19th century. When asked for his appraisal, the boy guessed $150. He was floored when Weiss estimated the painting’s value at a staggering $1,000 to $1,500.

With eyes wide, the boy exclaimed his surprise. Weiss praised his instincts, encouraging him to pursue a career as an art dealer.

The budding entrepreneur confirmed his plans, stating his intention to continue collecting and, one day, become rich. This episode proves that sometimes, a keen eye and a little persistence can turn a small investment into a treasure.
