Talk about being in the right place at the right time! A “Price is Right” contestant’s job at a golf course proved to be the perfect experience when he landed a hole-in-one, winning himself a BMW.
Contestant Jason, who holds a degree in turfgrass management, told host Drew Carey about his work at a golf course, prompting Carey to joke, “Just goes to show you can get a degree in anything!” Little did they know how fortuitous Jason’s background would be. Announcer George Gray revealed Jason would be playing “Hole in One” for a BMW 640i Convertible worth a whopping $87,000.
The “Hole in One” game combines pricing strategy with putting prowess. Contestants must correctly guess the prices of six grocery items.
Flags representing the items are placed on a miniature golf course based on their retail prices – the higher the price, the closer the flag to the hole. A perfect pricing round earns a contestant a putt from the closest line, plus a $500 bonus.
If a guessed price is lower than the previous item, the contestant putts from that line.
With the help of the audience, Jason confidently arranged the items in his predicted price order. As the actual prices were revealed, one by one, the flags moved steadily closer to the hole, building the suspense. After five correct guesses, even Drew Carey was caught up in the excitement, exclaiming, “I don’t even golf, and I can make this putt!”
The sixth item’s price sealed the deal, giving Jason a putt from the easiest spot. Carey couldn’t resist a final jab, “If you miss this your friends will never talk to you!”
But there was no need to worry. With the practiced ease of a golf course worker, Jason sank the putt on his first try, winning the BMW and leaping for joy.
His skills in turfgrass management and pricing clearly paid off, proving that sometimes, the right combination of knowledge and luck can lead to a hole-in-one victory.
