Rubio: Trump Wants Ukraine Peace Deal

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking on “Hannity” Wednesday, emphasized the Trump administration’s commitment to ending the war in Ukraine. Rubio highlighted the devastating costs of the conflict – “billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives” – and praised President Trump’s efforts to achieve peace.

This follows a highly publicized clash at the White House between Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy, with Vice President Vance also present. The meeting, intended to finalize a rare earth minerals deal between the US and Ukraine, ended abruptly with Zelenskyy’s departure.

The deal, seen as a potential source of economic benefit for both nations, remains unsigned. In the aftermath, the US temporarily suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Despite the tension, President Trump acknowledged receiving a conciliatory letter from Zelenskyy, who expressed his commitment to working with the President towards a lasting peace and reiterated Ukraine’s willingness to sign the minerals agreement.

Rubio stated that the White House will pursue diplomatic efforts with both Russia and Ukraine to identify their demands and seek common ground. He expressed optimism that a resolution could be reached, attributing the potential success to President Trump’s leadership. However, the Institute for the Study of War observes that Russia has yet to offer any substantial concessions, continuing to demand Ukraine’s complete capitulation.
