- Bryan Kohberger case: Idaho court releases surviving roommates’ text messages from night of student murders (foxnews.com)
Newly unsealed court documents reveal text messages exchanged between two surviving roommates in the Moscow, Idaho, quadruple homicide case. The messages, sent just minutes after the attack, offer a glimpse into the confusion and fear inside the home.
One roommate, identified as DM, texted the other, BF, at 4:22 a.m. on November 13, saying, “No one is answering,” and expressing confusion. DM also texted the victims, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, asking what was going on. In other texts, DM appears to reference the masked intruder she later described to police.
According to the documents, DM tried calling both roommates and three of the victims prior to texting, but none of the calls were answered. Later, at 10:23 a.m., she again texted Goncalves and Mogen, urging them to respond.
Around 11:40 a.m., she called her father. A 911 call was placed from BF’s phone around noon.
Prosecutors hope to use these text messages as evidence in the case against Bryan Kohberger, who is charged with the murders of Goncalves, Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. The court also released a transcript of a frantic 911 call describing an unresponsive Kernodle and mentioning a possible intruder.
Other released documents detail the evidence prosecutors intend to present, including Kohberger’s financial records, surveillance footage, and even weather reports from the night of the murders. The defense is seeking to have the death penalty removed as a possible sentence, arguing that missed discovery deadlines have put them at a disadvantage.
