Kendrick and Lively Reunite for “Another Simple Favor” Sequel, Bringing Double the Trouble

SXSW attendees were treated to an early screening of “Another Simple Favor,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit. The film reunites Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, reprising their roles as Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson, respectively. The audience reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

Director Paul Feig, known for his hesitation towards sequels, assured the audience he wouldn’t have revisited these characters without a compelling story. And compelling it is.

Five years after the events of the first film, Emily, fresh out of prison thanks to a wealthy fiancé, crashes Stephanie’s book signing. The book, of course, details Stephanie’s tumultuous relationship with Emily.

Using a potential lawsuit as leverage, Emily whisks Stephanie off to Italy for her wedding.

The sequel retains the magnetic chemistry between Kendrick and Lively, with both actresses delivering engaging performances. Henry Golding returns as Sean, their shared ex, now navigating the wreckage of his past relationships.

New additions to the cast include Allison Janney and Elizabeth Perkins, seamlessly blending into the film’s campy tone. Alex Newell also shines as Stephanie’s opportunistic agent.

“Another Simple Favor” cranks up the twists and turns, culminating in an outlandish third act that surpasses the original. Blake Lively herself confessed to feeling uncomfortable watching the film with an audience, hinting at the wild ride in store for viewers. While the ending leaves room for another sequel, it’s hard to imagine topping the outrageous fashion and dialogue of this installment.
