- Donny Osmond forced to correct TV host live on air telling her ‘that’s not quite true’ (irishstar.com)
On last Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, a conversation between Susanna Reid and Donny Osmond took a slightly awkward turn. Osmond, appearing via video link to discuss his new Las Vegas show, found himself gently correcting Reid after a question about the pitfalls of child stardom.
Reid, discussing the pressures faced by young celebrities, referenced Millie Bobby Brown’s comments about the media’s desire to keep her in a perpetual state of youth. She then brought up Guy Chambers’ suggestion that individuals shouldn’t join boy bands before the age of 18. Concluding her point, Reid stated that Osmond, unlike others, hadn’t experienced these difficulties, seemingly dismissing the challenges he might have faced transitioning from teen idol to adult performer.
Osmond quickly interjected, politely but firmly correcting Reid’s assertion. He explained that his transition from teeny-bopper heartthrob to established adult entertainer was, in fact, quite challenging.
He credited projects like “Soldier of Love,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Dancing with the Stars,” and the UK’s “Strictly Come Dancing” with helping solidify his image as an adult performer. This acceptance, he noted, made it easier to embrace his earlier teen idol career.
Osmond, who rose to fame as a child alongside his siblings in The Osmonds, and later as a successful solo artist in the 1970s, clearly demonstrated that even with decades of experience, navigating the entertainment industry’s expectations can be complex.
