Embattled talk show host Wendy Williams phoned into The View on Friday to discuss her ongoing guardianship battle. Williams, who likened her situation to Britney Spears’ highly publicized conservatorship, told the panel she felt trapped and pleaded for her freedom. Speaking to co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, Williams insisted she was not incapacitated and demanded the guardians “get off [her] neck.”
Currently residing in a memory care unit, the 60-year-old expressed her frustration at being surrounded by much older residents. She also revealed she is unable to access her personal belongings, including her iconic purple talk show chair, which she plans to keep in her own apartment once released from the guardianship. Williams specifically criticized her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, stating she wanted her removed and to regain control of her finances and life.
Earlier in the week, police performed a welfare check on Williams at her residence, resulting in her being transported to a hospital for evaluation. Williams later told “Good Day New York” host Rosanna Scotto that she “passed with flying colors” and requested independent testing.
This incident follows ongoing disputes between Williams and Morrissey, who, through her lawyers, has claimed Williams suffers from cognitive impairment due to aphasia and dementia. Williams has vehemently denied these diagnoses.
The former radio and TV personality’s appearance on The View was teased earlier this month by her former producer, Suzanne Bass, who expressed support for Williams’ release from guardianship.
Williams’ talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, was canceled in 2022 after a period of personal and professional turmoil, including her divorce from ex-husband Kevin Hunter Sr. Williams has publicly discussed Hunter’s infidelity and the impact it had on her life.
