Music Mogul Diddy Pleads Not Guilty to Amended Charges
Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in a New York federal court on Friday, pleading not guilty to an amended indictment containing new allegations of forced labor. The updated charges allege that Combs coerced employees into working excessive hours under threat of physical harm and damage to their reputation. The indictment also includes the allegation that he forced at least one employee into sexual acts.
Combs’s legal team vehemently denies all accusations, asserting that the claims stem from consensual relationships with former girlfriends. Attorney Marc Agnifilo stated, “He looks forward to his day in court when it will become clear that he has never forced anyone to engage in sexual acts against their will.” The defense also maintains that the dozens of civil lawsuits filed against Combs in recent months are merely attempts to exploit the situation for publicity.
The rapper, sporting a prison jumpsuit, overgrown hair, and a beard, stood as he entered his plea. Family members, including his mother, son, daughter, and publicist Marvet Britto, were present to offer support. Combs acknowledged the indictment and interacted warmly with his family and legal team.
The court proceedings also addressed a video published last year, purportedly showing Combs kicking his former girlfriend, Cassandra Ventura, in a hotel hallway. Defense lawyers reiterated their claim that the video is misleadingly edited.
Prosecutors, however, consider it crucial evidence. The judge encouraged both sides to find common ground on the issue.
Combs has previously apologized for the incident depicted in the video.
Jury selection is slated to begin May 5, with opening statements expected on May 12.
