Costco Makes a Splash with Budget-Friendly Car Washes, But Not Everyone’s on Board
Known for bulk buys and bargain prices, Costco is now making waves in the car wash business. The members-only retailer has added car wash services to select locations, and TikTok user Allison (@allisonetv) recently shared her discovery with her followers, racking up nearly a million views.
In her video, filmed at a Costco in San Juan Capistrano, California, Allison shows a long line of cars waiting for the $7.99 wash. While some commenters expressed disbelief, Costco’s website confirms the car wash service is available in several states, including California, Washington, Arizona, Idaho, and Tennessee.
The service includes an exterior wash and wax, tire shine, wheel cleaner, undercarriage wash with rust inhibitors, and a spot-free rinse. Costco also touts the use of Envirosoft foam brushes and a ceramic protective coating.
While the price point undercuts many automatic car washes, which typically charge between $10 and $16, reactions have been mixed. Some users praised the service for its value and convenience, with one Reddit user noting that Costco’s wash offers more features for the price than competitors.
Others expressed concerns about the potential for damage to their vehicles due to the non-contactless nature of the wash. One commenter warned against using the service for expensive or new cars, claiming it could ruin the paint.
Another echoed this sentiment, quipping that it costs “$7.99 to scratch your car, and $1,200 to paint correct it.”
