Boxing legend and grill icon George Foreman passes away at 76
The world mourns the loss of George Foreman, the two-time heavyweight boxing champion and household name thanks to his wildly popular George Foreman Grill. Foreman passed away on Friday, March 21st.
His family shared the news in a heartfelt statement, remembering him as a “devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather” who lived a life guided by “unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.” They also highlighted his humanitarian efforts and described him as a “force for good.”
Foreman’s boxing career spanned decades, beginning in the 1960s and culminating in an improbable second heavyweight title win in 1994 at the age of 45. His early career included an Olympic gold medal and his first heavyweight championship in 1973.
“Big George,” all 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds of him, became a symbol of strength and resilience in the ring. Though he suffered a few notable defeats, including the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” against Muhammad Ali in 1974, Foreman boasted an impressive career record with 68 knockouts.
Beyond boxing, Foreman achieved remarkable success with the George Foreman Grill, a kitchen staple in millions of homes since its 1994 debut.
A devoted family man, Foreman is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A unique fact about the boxing champion: five of his sons are named George. He explained this tradition on his website, stating that he wanted his sons to always have something in common, emphasizing that they would rise and fall together.
