McCartney Tells Fry to “Shut Up” at Funeral

Additional Coverage:

Actor and comedian Stephen Fry recounted a hilariously embarrassing encounter with music legend Paul McCartney on The Jonathan Ross Show. Fry, known for his roles in films like Harry Potter and The Hobbit, admitted he avoids singing at all costs, even resorting to miming at a funeral. However, his miming was noticed by none other than McCartney, who encouraged Fry to join in the singing.

Fry, initially hesitant, explained to McCartney that he couldn’t sing. McCartney, ever the optimist, insisted that everyone can sing.

Emboldened, Fry attempted to sing the next hymn, only to have McCartney quickly retract his encouragement with a blunt “You’re right, you can’t sing. Shut up.”

The anecdote, shared during a karaoke segment on the show, had the audience and host Jonathan Ross in stitches. Later, the guests attempted a rendition of BeyoncĂ©’s “Halo,” which prompted at least one viewer to take to social media to express their displeasure.
