Budding Singer Lola Bonfiglio, Daughter of Carnie Wilson, Wows “American Idol” Judges

Lola Bonfiglio, daughter of Wilson Phillips’ Carnie Wilson and granddaughter of Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, recently auditioned for “American Idol,” and it was a true family affair. The audition, which aired Sunday, featured a surprise appearance by Carnie and her sister, Wendy Wilson, who, along with Chynna Phillips, make up the iconic 90s group Wilson Phillips.

After introductions, Bonfiglio brought out her mom and aunt, much to the judges’ shock. Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan were visibly stunned, with Underwood exclaiming, “Wilson Phillips? I don’t know how to proceed!”

The trio, accompanied by Bonfiglio’s father, Rob, on guitar, then launched into a heartwarming rendition of their hit song, “Hold On.” Underwood later commented on the family’s natural harmony, calling it a “genetic design to sound good together.” Bonfiglio aptly described it as a “blood blend.”

Following the family performance, Bonfiglio took center stage for her solo audition. Singing Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow,” she brought her mother to tears.

While the judges praised her voice’s “tone, pureness, and quality,” they also offered constructive criticism. Richie encouraged her to hold notes longer and tell a story, while Bryan suggested she explore her vocal dynamics and “let loose a little bit.”

Underwood emphasized Bonfiglio’s honesty and presence, urging her to “own her talent.”

Ultimately, Bonfiglio received three resounding “yeses” from the judges, securing her a ticket to Hollywood for the next round of the competition.

This performance underscores the importance of family and music in the Wilson family. In a previous interview, Carnie Wilson spoke about her “dysfunctional” upbringing in the rock and roll world, highlighting music as the steady nucleus of their lives. Bonfiglio echoed this sentiment, referring to music as her “faith” and a strong thread that binds her family together.
