Prince William Sends Sweet Birthday Message to Mary Berry

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, recently sent a heartwarming birthday message to beloved British baking icon Mary Berry for her 90th birthday. The message aired during a BBC special celebrating Berry’s milestone birthday.

“You are a true national treasure,” the prince said in the video message, adding a playful jab, “I dread to think who’s cooking your cake and the criticism they might get!” Berry, visibly touched, responded with “What an honor.”

The Prince and Berry have a warm rapport, built over several collaborations, including a 2019 BBC Christmas special where Berry worked with William and his wife, Princess Kate, to prepare festive treats. During the special, Kate revealed that William’s culinary skills date back to their university days, adding that he “used to cook all sorts of meals,” perhaps in an effort to impress his future bride.

William’s recent visit to The Welsh Cake Shop also saw the prince jokingly credit Berry for his baking prowess. “Mary Berry taught me everything I need to know,” he quipped while working with dough.

The prince’s birthday message to Berry featured his beard, which, according to William’s former communications secretary, Jason Knauf, has the Princess’s seal of approval.
